Named for the patron saint of artillery and armament, the Honorable Order of St. Barbara recognizes those who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of aircraft armament and to the mission of this association.
A Tradition of Excellence
The Honorable Order of St. Barbara is the most prestigious recognition conferred by the Texas Aircraft Armament Association. It is awarded to individuals — military and civilian alike — who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and service in the field of aircraft armament.
Saint Barbara, the patron saint of artillerists and those who work with explosive ordnance, has been venerated by military communities for centuries. Her name is synonymous with courage under fire and technical mastery — qualities we seek to honor in every inductee.
Induction into the Order is a permanent distinction. Recipients are recognized at our Annual Awards Banquet and their names are entered into the permanent roll of the Order, preserved for future generations.
Rooted in Centuries of Tradition
The veneration of Saint Barbara by military artillerists dates to the medieval period, when she became the patron of those who worked with gunpowder and cannon. The tradition was carried forward into the modern era by artillery and armament communities across the armed forces. The Texas Aircraft Armament Association formally established its own Order of St. Barbara to honor the unique contributions of aircraft armament professionals — the men and women who arm, maintain, and perfect the weapons systems that protect our nation.
Who May Be Honored
Nomination for the Honorable Order of St. Barbara is open to any individual — active duty, retired, or civilian — who meets one or more of the following criteria:
Distinguished Service
Demonstrated outstanding service in the field of aircraft armament, weapons systems, or related technical disciplines over a sustained period.
Exceptional Contribution
Made a singular, significant contribution to the advancement of aircraft armament technology, doctrine, safety, or training.
Support of the Association
Provided extraordinary support to the Texas Aircraft Armament Association and its mission to preserve and promote aviation armament heritage.
Valor & Professionalism
Exhibited valor, professionalism, and dedication to duty in circumstances that reflect the highest traditions of the armament community.
How to Nominate
Submit a Nomination
Any member in good standing may nominate a candidate by submitting a written nomination letter to the Awards Committee, detailing the nominee's qualifications and contributions.
Committee Review
The Awards Committee reviews all nominations and evaluates candidates against the established criteria. The committee may request additional supporting documentation.
Board Approval
Approved nominations are forwarded to the Board of Directors for final confirmation. The Board's decision is final.
Induction Ceremony
Inductees are formally recognized at the Annual Awards Banquet, where they receive their certificate and medallion before the assembled membership.
